What to read now that you’ve got the time
Are you finding yourself with more time on your hands than you know what to do with? Now is the time to do what you’ve been putting off for months, maybe even years, and read that book that’s been collecting dust on the shelf!
Maybe it’s a heavy, dense classic that you have always been meaning to get around to. Maybe it’s that one book you started but never quite finished, or maybe you’re feeling nostalgic and in need of a good reread. Whatever book it is, now is the time to read it!
I’ve compiled a list of books that are on my Quarantine Reads list, and hopefully you can take inspiration and put together your own list. Think how satisfying it will be once you start crossing titles off your TBR that have been ignored for so long!
We all have those books lying around and sitting on shelves, so here are some of the books I will putting on my reading list since I am finding myself with so much more time to give them some attention!
This is the book that you want to read (and know you should read) because it has left its mark on the world. It is intimidating because of the length and the language but, and believe me what I say this – you can do it! Don’t let the old British way of speaking and the traumatic experience you had in high school trying to understand it discourage you from reading The Classic because it’s just that – a classic, and so a (almost universally agreed) great book to read.
So you’re feeling nostalgic. Well, then you are well overdue for The Reread. It is a book that you loved so much the first time you read it and now is the time to rekindle that old flame of bookish love! Maybe it’s a favorite that you can recall reading in your childhood bed, holding a flashlight under the covers because it was way past you bedtime. Or maybe you read it last year and already forgot how it ended so you are in need of a refresher. Whatever your reason, now is the time to reminisce and give that book another read.
The Started But Never Finished
The bookmark has been holding your page for way too long and it’s time to give it a break. It’s probably sitting on the nightstand, a constant reminder that you are a book quitter. But, please, don’t let it’s taunting pages get to you – find the time to prove to yourself that you can finish that book! Maybe you quit reading because you were busy, or because the book just wasn’t your speed, but no excuse can hold you back now – you have the time and the boredom to read the last few chapters, and you will be so satisfied when you finally conclude The Started But Never Finished.
The Impulse Buy
We’ve all been there: browsing the shelves at the local bookstore and leaving with an armful of new books even when there is a whole stack of TBR’s waiting at home. Something about it caught your eye though – maybe the cover or the blurb on the back cover. The Impulse Buy found its way into your hands for a reason, so now is as a good a time as any to read it and find out why.
Anyone who knows me knows that they cannot go wrong with gifting me a book for any occasion and I’m always grateful when they do because you can never have too many books! But, I will admit, while I have received some great books I picked up right away, there are a few I haven’t gotten around to and it has me feeling a little guilty. Take the time to read The Gift book you have lying around and consider getting in touch with its giver and having a bookish conversation about it.
The One Everyone Is Reading
As an avid bookstagrammer I am sometimes overwhelmed by all the books I see people currently reading and recommending. Everyone has such different taste, yet there are always a few books I see appearing on multiple feeds and I feel a little left out having not read them! In order to stay in the bookish loop, borrow or buy The One Everyone Is Reading and alleviate some of that FOMO and see what all the hype is about.
Sometimes I look at my bookshelves and wonder why do I have that book?! I’m sure most people have a book or two sitting around that they aren’t quite sure where they came from. Whether it’s an old garage sale find or a book left lying around when you moved into a new place, you’re curious about it and have been meaning to check it out. The Random book could be an unexpected new favorite, so consider giving it a read and making a dent in your TBR stack.
